29 Lessons, Part 5: The Secret to Consistency

How to Achieve Anything, One Step at a Time

In the past, I’ve often felt overwhelmed by goals that seemed enormous or completely out of reach. Over time, however, I’ve discovered strategies that help me break those big ambitions into manageable, bite-sized steps.

  • Consistency Wins: Slow, steady efforts beat intense bursts of activity. When I consistently showed up at the gym, building a strong capable body became inevitable. Same with saving and investing - small consistent efforts compounded over time into nice returns.
  • Overthinking Kills Action: If you wait until the time is right, or until you are ready, you will never start. Progress is better than perfection, so start first, and refine later.
  • Accepting Imperfections: Along the lines of the previous point, have you ever heard of the spotlight effect? It’s the idea that we often think people are paying way more attention to us than they really are. The truth is, most people are busy focusing on their own lives. So don’t overthink it—take action, adjust as needed, and keep moving forward.
  • Routines Over Resolutions: While goals define what you want to achieve, systems are the repeatable processes and routines that ensure steady progress. When I wanted to reach 500k subscribers on my YouTube channel, I couldn't just SAY I wanted to do it and sit back - I needed to make sure all my systems were in place. My daily habits and routines ensured I would churn out high-quality weekly videos and continue to grow.
By the way, if you are looking to grow your own channel in 2025, I'm building a free community for like-minded creators. You'll enjoy exclusive resources at no cost, and we'll be holding a free bootcamp mid-February! Here's the link to join the waitlist - once you've signed up, you'll be the first in when the doors open in a week!
  • Appreciating the Journey: Every day is a gift and while it sounds cliche, sometimes we are so focused on the end goal or destination that we forget to enjoy the present moment. Life is beautiful, so remember to celebrate the simple moments and the here and now.

Looking back over the past few years, I’m so grateful for everything I’ve been through and that I persevered, even when part of me wanted to throw in the towel. Focusing on the process and enjoying the journey, instead of stressing about the end result, helped me stay in the moment and appreciate all the little wins along the way.

Talk to you next week,
Gabe

Hey Reader, For years, I cleaned office buildings every night. Not exactly glamorous. Fast forward 5 years: I ended up being a guest on one of the podcasts that I had been listening to when I used to clean. What a surreal, full-circle moment. This whole experience made me realize something...

These work even if you aren't about that minimalist life. Imagine: Walking into your home and...

Read time: 2 min ... Look, I get it. I've been exactly where you are right now. Staring at those view counts, wondering if all this effort is worth it. Maybe you're thinking "This just isn't working" or "I'm not cut out for this." I remember going through a 6-month stretch where every time I would post a video, I'd LOSE subscribers (see below). It made me not want to cut the camera on anymore. This was so discouraging, but I'm glad I hung in there! Let Me Share Something That Changed...
